University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) provides medical and mental health care for students on Northeastern’s Boston campus.

UHCS services are available to:

  • All undergraduate students 
  • All full time on ground Law school students 
  • Graduate students who have either enrolled in the Student Health Plan or have paid the student health fee. Graduate students can petition to access UHCS, a flat fee is associated.
  • Students in special programs by prior arrangement.

At University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS), we’re committed to providing you with exceptional care in an environment built on mutual respect and shared responsibility.

As a patient at UHCS, you have the right to: 

  1. Confidentiality of all records and communications to the extent provided by law. 
  2. Receive culturally sensitive care that is respectful of your personal beliefs and values. 
  3. Be treated with respect and compassion. 
  4. Know the name, position, and credentials of any staff involved in your care. 
  5. Be actively involved in your treatment and have information clearly communicated to you. 
  6. Appropriate assessment and management of your symptoms. 
  7. Be provided a referral to appropriate off-site services for ongoing care. 
  8. Be given information regarding your diagnosis, assessment, recommended treatment, and prognosis to the extent that it is known. 
  9. Be given all available information pertaining to the risks, common and serious side effects, and potential benefits of accepting or refusing a recommended treatment. 
  10. Be informed of the common and serious side effects of medications. 
  11. Access to interpreter services, upon request. 
  12. Access a medical chaperone, upon request. 
  13. Obtain a copy of your medical record, upon request. 
  14. Request a different provider, if desired. 
  15. Provide feedback on the services you receive. 

                            As a patient at UHCS, you have the responsibility to: 

                            1. Arrive on time for scheduled visits. UHCS recommends arriving 10 minutes early. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, you may be asked to reschedule.  
                            2. Update your address and phone number in the Student Hub. 
                            3. Bring your Northeastern ID and health insurance information with you to visits.  
                            4. Provide the clinician with all relevant information about your symptoms and concerns. 
                            5. Inform the clinician of your medical history including previous illness, hospitalizations, and medication.  
                            6. Be an active participant in your care. Ask questions if you do not understand the information provided by the clinician. 
                            7. Be respectful of others at UHCS including the privacy of other patients.
